I paid him a little respect here and there, just so it wasn’t purely me hating on him, but my bias is still probably clear. As such, much of his dialogue and conversations were admittedly focused on bashing him. Though, it is a little unusual that the one chance I get to write for Sonic ended up being modern Sonic, by far my least favorite iteration of the character. Regardless of that, it was nice to have an excuse to bring Sonic into at least one episode of the series. It was hard to find a reason for Sonic and only Sonic to lose his memories and make it something relevant to the plot of the series. I’ll admit that the execution was a little awkward. It seemed natural to address that issue in a series focusing on time travel and Silver. The issue was never addressed further, but now the implication is that somehow Sonic didn’t know who Silver was by the time of Speed of Time, but everyone else did. This discontinuity was addressed in the Chaos Project, in the Season 2 episode Deep Cut, where Tails mentioned how it was odd that Sonic talked about Silver as if no one knew who he was. This now presents a problem, as Speed of Time took place after Forces.

The tie-in prequel comics for Forces also implied that Sonic and friends (or at least Knuckles) knew who Silver was even prior to Forces. Since that was written, Sonic Forces came out, prominently featuring Silver. As such, Speed of Time was written assuming that Sonic and Silver only met in ’06 and had those memories (mostly) erased after the game. Sonic Rivals and Sonic Colors DS also featured Silver, both of which have questionable statuses in the canon. When Speed of Time was originally written, the only time Sonic and Silver had ever met outside of Sonic ’06 (in the main series) was Generations, where it was unclear how much of events the characters would even remember, or even how canon the story was to begin with.

When first brainstorming the Silver and Zero series, one of the early things my brother and I decided needed to be accomplished was explaining the discontinuity between the Chaos Project and the main series regarding Sonic’s memory of Silver.
